Richard-Karl Karlovich Sommer (1866 - 1939) - Russian painter, watercolorist; one of the founders of the Tiflis Society of Fine Arts.
Richard-Karl Karlovich Sommer has been a volunteer student of the Imperial Academy of Arts since 1884. During his studies, he was awarded a number of large encouragement medals. In 1893, he completed his studies with the title of class artist of the 3rd degree.

From the late 1890s to the early 1900s, Sommer worked a lot in Central Asia; from 1912 to 1917 he worked in the Transcaucasus: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan.

He is the author of numerous paintings, as well as a number of graphic works, mainly of a genre and ethnographic nature.

In his works he depicted both everyday and battle scenes, as well as views of architectural monuments of Turkestan and landscapes of the old quarters of Tashkent, Bukhara, and Samarkand.

Since 1894, Sommer's works were exhibited at exhibitions of the St. Petersburg Society of Artists, and later at the annual Autumn exhibitions and exhibitions of the Society of Russian Watercolorists. In 1915, an exhibition of Sommer's works took place in Tashkent.

Currently, works by R. K. Sommer are in the collections of the State Russian Museum, Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts, Tula Regional Art Museum, State Museum of Arts of Azerbaijan (Baku), Museum of the History of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan (Samarkand), Republican Art Museum of North Ossetia , Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan (Tashkent) and many others
