Gun Karlis Fridrikhovich [1(13).12.1830. Madliena, now the Ogre region of Latvia, - 16(28).1.1877, Davos, Switzerland], Latvian painter.
He studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1854-61) with P. V. Basin. In 1863-71 he lived in Paris (in 1863-68 he was a pensioner of the Academy of Arts). Academician (1868) and professor (1870) of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (since 1873). The author of scenes from the life of the urban and rural poor of Normandy ("The Sick Child", 1869, Tretyakov Gallery) and genre historical paintings ("Scene from St. Bartholomew's Night", 1870, Tretyakov Gallery). He also did portraits.
In his drawings and watercolors, K.F. Gun was the first professional artist to turn to Latvian themes.
