Artist Heide Presse (43 works)
Heide Presse has always enjoyed historical subjects and over the past few years she has been traveling to discover the 19th century. To add historical authenticity to his work, Heide sews clothing from a bygone period and also collects antique items to use as props. She prefers to depict simpler, everyday moments in life using rich colors and bright light. She was born in Heidelberg, Germany (in 1958), but grew up in Monroe, Louisiana. Heide Presse followed the tradition of its maternal grandfather, who was an architect and artist in Germany. A hint of her future came to her at the end of kindergarten, when she received an award for the best artist in her class. "When I went to college I knew I wanted to do something creative," she says. "I just didn't know what." She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in design from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1980. She worked as a commercial artist in Texas. Heide Presse and her husband currently reside in Central Florida with their son.
"I love period clothing and old-fashioned gardens because they allow us to pause for a moment and appreciate the simple pleasures of the past." - Heide Presse.
