Gerardina Jacoba Van de Sande Bakhuyzen was born in 1826 in Denmark into an artistic family: her father is the painter Hendrik Van de Sande Bakhuyzen; brother - artist Julius Jacobus Van de Sande Bakhuyzen. Gerardine and her many sisters were taught painting by their father. The artist achieved great success in painting flower and fruit still lifes; Between 1870 and 1880 Gerardine was awarded various prizes and awards. Every year she exhibited at the Grafton Gallery in London.
