Giant Arctic paintings in Salekhard (11 photos)

In the northern cities of Russia, houses are often painted in bright colors. In Salekhard, in addition, you can see giant murals. They are created by artists from all over Russia as part of summer art festivals. Today there are about a dozen such murals in Salekhard, and each of them is a real masterpiece!

Icebreaker "Yamal"

The mural with the legendary nuclear icebreaker Yamal, which made more than 40 voyages to the North Pole, appeared in 2016.

Mammoth



A giant mammoth with an ice floe in its paws is located on a house to the left of the icebreaker.

Tourist

The mural with the traveler conquering the Yamal expanses is located next to the icebreaker and the mammoth.



Three murals form a single art space in the city center.

Polar bear



Literally a couple of houses from “Tourist” you can see a huge polar bear in a hat and scarf with northern patterns, painted in 2020.

Mammoth skeleton



The drawing depicts the skeleton of a huge mammoth in a museum space.

When viewed from a distance, the drawing appears three-dimensional.

3D house



This is such an interesting optical illusion.

Snowboarder



The mural “Snowboarder” with the inscription “Salekhard” appeared in 2018 during the graffiti art festival “Cultural Defense”.

North Lego



Another work is a Lego set with the flavor of the peoples of the North. There is a chum, a polar bear, and a kid playing with a toy fish on a fishing rod.

Chum



This is one of the new murals that will appear in the summer of 2022.

The chum is against the backdrop of the northern lights, and inside it is a colorful tundra.

Stele "66th parallel" in flowers



Salekhard is the only city in the world that is located directly on the Arctic Circle.

The starting point of the Arctic is marked by the “66th Parallel” stela.

A mural with a stele in spring flowers can be seen on the wall of one of the houses in the Izumrudny microdistrict.
