Usually, any creative person can give an accurate answer regarding whether his works belong to a particular style, genre or movement.

But Linda Kolsch has no such answer. The woman calls what she does with the capacious word “art.”

For a long time, designer Linda Kolsch worked in patchwork and quilting techniques. But then I decided to try ink, not with paper, but with fabric.

And I discovered a new direction for creating multi-layered images using the quilt technique. The source of inspiration was personal photos, sketches, notes and memories.

Each piece begins with simple fabric or paper, which she modifies with paints, stains, dyes, stains and inks. As he works, he carefully thinks through and prepares the content, then layers and stitches them together.

In addition to direct drawing and painting, Linda uses design programs to prepare images for screen printing or digital printing. While continuing to use paper in art quilts, she often recycles and incorporates used coffee filters into installations and sculptural works, often in scroll form.

The artist prefers to work in a neutral black and white palette, using the widest possible range of shades from dark to light. Linda came to this decision after studying Renaissance paintings and the work of modern screen printing artists. With a preference for the unnoticed, the displaced and the unseen, she selects her subjects from city streets or rural forests. The artist discards context and reworks images, creating new narratives and imaginary scenarios.

Linda Kolsch's art explores humanistic themes in three areas: aging, the environment, and cross-cultural experiences.

With the help of mysterious translucent figures, Linda tells stories, shares thoughts and dreams, and tries to show the world human wisdom.
