Krasnoyarsk artist was fined for a “tattoo” on a tumbler toy (4 photos)

Vasily Slonov will have to pay a fine, and the “work of art” will have to be destroyed.





A well-known artist in Krasnoyarsk created an unusual tumbler doll. The toy is dotted with criminal symbols, including thieves' stars, symbolizing the AUE movement banned in the Russian Federation. The tumbler became an exhibit at the Gulag Toys exhibition, opened on the 3rd floor of the Novotel hotel. The unusual toy first attracted the attention of spectators, then of law enforcement officers. The artist was accused of “publicly demonstrating the symbols of an extremist organization” (20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). An administrative protocol was drawn up against the cultural figure regarding violation of law and order, and by a court decision, Slonov will have to destroy his “share” and also pay a fine of 1 thousand rubles.



The artist himself admitted guilt and did not challenge the court’s decision.

Vasily Slonov became famous in 2013 after an exhibition of provocative posters created for the Olympics in Sochi. On them, the Olympic symbols appeared in an erotic and negative light. So, Slonov drew the bear in leather underwear, the hare looked like a rubber doll from a sex shop, and the matryoshka doll is presented in the shape of a grenade.

Three days after the opening, the exhibition with a series of paintings Welcome to Sochi-2014 was closed, the director of the Perm museum, Marat Gelman, was fired, and the artist himself gained fame and became quite rich, selling about a third of his 60 works for 6 thousand euros each.

After this, Slonov was recognized abroad, and now Western collectors are willing to buy his works
