Baku master Faig Ahmed and his magic carpets (12 photos)
Faig Ahmed distorts the patterns of traditional Azerbaijani carpets, “dismantling” their structure in order to build visually deceptive compositions - for example, to create the impression that the carpet is flowing from the wall. The original traditional textile design is transformed into a digital mosaic.
“Patterns and ornaments exist in all cultures, sometimes they are similar, and sometimes very different. I think of them as words and phrases that can be read and translated into a language we understand,” says Ahmed.
Faig Ahmed lives and works in Baku, he graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts. He previously worked with video and installations, but now focuses on textiles and sculpture.
