Artist Illustrates Inconvenient Truths About Our Society That Will Make You Think (18 Photos)
Art is not just made to please our eyes; it also has the ability to convey ideas and provoke thoughts.
Austrian cartoonist Gerhard Haderer has been creating satirical illustrations for decades, with the help of which he demonstrates our modern imperfect society.
You won’t believe it, but for one of his published books, the title of which is “The Life of Jesus,” Gerhard Haderer even once appeared in court. This work of his caused a strong reaction in the country, the Catholic Church was especially dissatisfied. This story ended in 2005, when Haderer was convicted in Greece of insulting the feelings of believers, as a result of which he received a six-month suspended sentence in absentia. True, a few months later, as a result of an appeal, this verdict was appealed and Gerhard Haderer was nevertheless acquitted.
It should be noted that the artist improved and developed his realistic style when at a young age he worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for advertising agencies. It was not until 1985, when Gerhard abandoned his commercial dreams, that he became an independent cartoonist and satirical illustrator.
