I will not hide that American painters, for the most part, are not interesting to me, because their works are quite simple and naive. In drawings for children this is a plus, but if we talk about classical painting, then it seems to me that they lack a lot, perhaps adult emotions correctly expressed on the canvas. But Daniel Ridgway Knight is something else... He was born in Pennsylvania in 1839. He really lived by painting, studied a lot both the technique of drawing and the world around him. In particular, Daniel Ridgway Knight spent a lot of time understanding the phases of the day and the changes in light depending on the weather and time of day. From his studio he observed natural phenomena both in winter and on moonlit nights.
The attention to detail is reflected in Daniel Knight's beautiful and detailed paintings. Beautiful light patterns on faces, even in full-length portraits, carefully detailed foliage, thick clouds in the sky... At the end of the 19th century, Knight moved to France and settled near Paris. This step allowed the artist to discover a new, better part of his painting life. Drawing women at work in the field and garden, painting beautiful flower beds and landscapes, Daniel Ridgway Knight rose to the top when, a hundred years later, his paintings are in great demand. The artist died in Paris in 1924.
