English painter Herbert Thomas Dicksee was born in London on June 14, 1862 into a family of artists. He studied at the Slade School, later taught drawing at the City of London School and exhibited his work at the Royal Academy (1885 - 1931). Herbert Thomas Dicksee painted animals, historical and genre scenes, painted in oils, and was also an engraver and worked in the mezzotint technique. His images of dogs and big cats are still popular among collectors today. Herbert Thomas Dicksee died in 1942 in Hampstead.
