Artist Chernetsov Nikanor Grigorievich - academician of landscape painting, born in 1804, died on January 11, 1879, brother of Grigory Grigorievich Chernetsov; I was inferior to him in abilities and prevailed mainly through diligence and perseverance.

He was born in the city of Lukha, Kostroma province; The Society for the Encouragement of Artists educated him at its own expense at the Academy of Arts, where he studied in the class of M. Vorobyov. In 1827, he was awarded a silver medal of the 1st dignity for landscape painting; in the same year, for the view of the gallery in the Imperial Hermitage, he received a second gold medal and the title of artist of the XIV class. In 1832 he received the title of academician for "View of Tiflis", and in 1844 he was awarded the title of His Majesty's painter. N.G. Chernetsov traveled a lot with his brother. From the mass of drawings he made during his trip with his brother in 1831-1840, four portfolios were compiled, which were acquired by the Academy of Arts. In 1844-1845 The album "Palestine. Views drawn from life by academicians G. and N. Chernetsov in 1842-1843" was published. This publication, in a large sheet, was published in notebooks, of which there were four in all, with six drawings in the notebook. Each notebook is accompanied by a sheet of explanatory text; The cover is very beautifully illustrated. In 1844, upon returning from Palestine, he received a reward of 1000 rubles from the Academy. In 1846, Nikanor Chernetsov went to Italy, and the Academy decided to give him 1,500 rubles. in year. Of the paintings he painted, at one time they were famous for their great care of finishing and fidelity: “View of the Josaphat Valley”, “View of the Nile River in Cairo”, “View of Gurzuf”, “View of Mount Ai-Petri in the Crimea”, “View of Alexandria” ". Some of the named paintings are in the Imperial Academy of Arts; The Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III currently houses the following paintings: “View of the city of Saratov at sunset”, “Ruins of the church in Kutais” (Room XIII). The albums acquired by the Academy in 1874 contain 1274 drawings of views of the Crimea, Volga, Egypt, and other places.
