American artist Bruno Zupan / Bruno Zupan was born in Slovenia in 1939. He graduated from the Art Institute in Zagreb, and at the age of twenty-three he left home to continue his education in Paris. In 1964, he left Paris for New York, where he began a series of solo exhibitions of his work in American museums and galleries.
Although Zupan is a US citizen, he has not given up his desire to explore other parts of the world. He paints the vibrant colors of Mexico, returns annually to Paris and Venice, and has his main studio in Valldemossa on the island of Mallorca. Many of the subjects of his paintings are located just outside the door. He is very fond of the anti-urban Mediterranean lifestyle, which gives complete freedom to his desire to glorify the everyday things that gave pleasure to Homer, Byron, Sargent, Chopin: sunlight on a broken column, the scent of almond blossom, a wet spring wind or the smell of the sea...
In 1976, Zupan was awarded life membership in the Society of French Artists. Selected exhibitions of the artist's work span the period from 1962 to 2006 in Colombia, South Carolina, Palma de Mallorca, Puerto Rico, UN Headquarters in New York and Oklahoma City.
