This work belongs to the genre of the so-called “veduta” - the most accurate representation of the city landscape using artistic means. "Veduts" were especially popular in the 18th - first half of the 19th centuries. Toselli's panorama reflects the most interesting and dynamic moment of the active development of the city - precisely when the appearance of the present Leningrad - St. Petersburg was being formed.
