Iris Scott In 2009, with a BFA from Washington State University, she took a year off to paint without distractions. She settled in Southern Taiwan in a small apartment overlooking the sea, where her idea was born - applying paint with her hands to canvas. An apartment that had no air conditioning in the kitchen and bathroom, where Iris washed her brushes. One evening, when Iris Scott was painting a landscape, she needed to clean her brush before moving on to bright yellow. Instead, to stay in her cool room, Iris began applying yellow paint with her fingertips. "I realized after 10 swipes that I liked applying paint with my fingers and that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life." Iris has developed a unique, stylistic process (fingerpainting) of applying oil paint to hands while wearing surgical gloves. The result is a complex and dynamic drawing in a post-impressionist manner, which echoes the masters of the old school. Her unique style attracts collectors from all over the world. "A new painting always begins in the morning with a cup of strong coffee in hand. Like my dentist, I put on purple latex gloves and begin to work. My fingers dance quickly across the canvas - some say it reminds them of a pianist in action. Colors collide and merge in my composition, the texture becomes thick and juicy."
