Edmund Dulac was born in 1882 into a family of the Toulouse bourgeoisie, no stranger to art. His father, a clothier by profession, was engaged in the restoration of old paintings, and his maternal uncle was interested in works of art from the East: Japanese prints, Persian and Indian miniatures. Edmund started drawing very early. His school years were spent at a small lyceum in Toulouse.
Having received a bachelor's degree in 1899, Dulac entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Toulouse. At the same time, he attended lectures at the Toulouse Academy of Fine Arts, where he received numerous awards in 1900. This success prompted him to leave the university and devote himself entirely to studying at the Academy, which was headed at that time by Jean-Paul Laurens. After graduating from the academy, Edmond Dulac worked as an illustrator for programs and printed publications such as L'Effort, Le Télégramme and L'Âme latine.
After several years of study in Paris, he moved to London in 1905. On 17 February 1912 he received British citizenship.

E. Dulac's first work in London was a series of 60 illustrations for the complete works of the Brontë sisters, commissioned by the bookseller and publisher Joseph Dent. This order was a testament to the high level of the 22-year-old artist. His work attracted the attention of the Leicester Gallery, which commissioned him to illustrate the collection of tales “A Thousand and One Nights”. This collection with colorful illustrations by the young artist was published in Great Britain in 1907.
Dulac left a whole gallery of female images, for example, collaborating with Walt Disney, he participated in the development of the character of Snow White. However, his most famous work is the image of Princess Budur. In Russia, after the book “Fairy Tales” by Charles Perrault with drawings by Dulac (1910-1911) was published, the popularization of his heritage was interrupted.

The artist could freely move from one genre to another. His work in the field of postal graphics was very successful. He was the author of sketches for many standard series of stamps of Great Britain and France and dozens of postcards from different years.
