Kawanabe Kyosai was a student of Utagawa Kuniyoshi for some time. After which he received an art education at the Kano school, but soon abandoned formal traditions for greater freedom. Like Kano Tohaku, Kyosai was a master of Chinese ink. Kawanabe Kyosai had a lively nature and led a rather stormy life. (The artist was imprisoned four times)) His best works were created under the influence of sake. Also known as a cartoonist.
