Mauri Kunnas (Finnish: Mauri Tapio Kunnas, born February 11, 1950, Vammala, Finland) is a world-famous Finnish children's writer.
He graduated from the University of Design in Helsinki and for many years worked in various publications, drawing comics and caricatures. The first book for children he illustrated was “Suomalainen tonttukirja” / “The Book of Finnish Elves”, published in 1979. He currently lives in Espoo with his wife Tarja and three children - Jenna (1983), Noora (1987) and Lauri (1989).
His books have won the love of children all over the world. They have been translated into 26 languages, sold more than 6 million copies in 29 countries and received the most prestigious international awards. During his long career, the writer was awarded the Children's Book Fair in Bologna, the State Literary Prize (1981), the prize for achievements in the field of cultural export of the Finnish Broadcasting Company (1998), and won the annual prize “Puupädhattu” awarded by the Finnish Comedians Community.
