Ignacio Larra (born 09/21/54) is a contemporary Spanish artist of Venezuelan origin. He was born in the district of San Juan (Caracas) in Venezuela, but at the age of 14 he immigrated with his parents to Spain, where he still lives. Studying in college was a burden for the teenager, as he wanted to devote all his time to his favorite pastime, drawing. His father, the famous landscape artist Juan Larramendi, was Ignacio Larra’s first mentor in understanding the basics of painting. He saw the special talent and artistic individualism of his son in the depiction of figures and portraits and helped to reveal this gift. Already, as an adult, Ignacio Larra himself gave painting lessons for a long time, at the request of the mayor, he participated in restoration work in the town of Bigo in Navarre, in northern Spain, and ... painted, painted, painted... Ignacio Larra mastered many secrets of artistic skill and I finally decided to paint in oils. The artist lived in different cities of Spain, traveled around Europe, but always returned to his beloved Bigo. Together with his wife and model Margarita (Margarita Irazoqui), he took a trip to Amsterdam. Here, figuratively speaking, the now world-famous artist Ignacio Larra was born. Studying Flemish and Dutch classical painting, Ignacio Larra embraced the best in it: intimacy, deep symbolism and careful elaboration of every detail of the drawing. Upon returning to Spain, he worked on a series of paintings in the “Dutch manner”, but with his own themes, drawn from the famous carnivals of Navarre. The artist creates “his own Holland” without classical tradition and stiffness, creates his own world, full of joy, music, endless games, a world adapted to the cold of a frozen lake, medieval clothes and Renaissance themes, this is a world of antiquity seen through the eyes of our contemporary. Paintings of recent years, as a rule, are large format, painted in the Baroque style, full of play of color and light, full of movement and life, paintings that fill the viewer with joy and optimism. Currently, the artist creates works exclusively for Galeria Etxeberria in San Sebastian and Galeria Santiago Etxeberria in Madrid. Ignacio Larra recently received the National Prize in Painting from the prestigious private Parisian Association "Living Culture". Ignacio Larra's works are in private collections both in Spain and abroad. Lives and works in a quiet area of Bigo, where the only “noisiness” is in his paintings.
