Auguste Herbin - French artist, representative of geometric abstractionism (14 works)
Auguste Herbin (French: Auguste Herbin; born April 29, 1882, Yvui near Cambrai - died February 1, 1960, Paris) - French artist, one of the main representatives of geometric abstractionism. Erben's artwork shows numerous changes in different painting styles. His first paintings in the style of Van Gogh's works were followed by canvases written under a clear Fauvist and cubic-figurative influence. Since 1913, O. Erben has been creating colorful, rich figurative paintings; then, in 1917-1921, he moved on to abstract geometric painting, sculpture and frescoes. After the next figurative period of creativity, the artist finally chooses abstract painting. The works of O. Herben had a noticeable influence on the work of Victor Vasarely and Op art in general. O. Erben is also considered one of the co-founders of “creative abstractionism” (Abstraction-Creation).
