Rie Cramer (actually Marie Cramer; born October 10, 1887 in Sukabumi on Java, Indonesia; † July 18, 1977 in Laren, Netherlands) was a Dutch illustrator and writer.
Rie Cramer grew up in Indonesia. Her artistic work was deeply influenced by her difficult childhood. Cramer's mother behaved coldly and distantly towards her throughout her life, while her father, who was a captain, was rarely with the family.
Cramer began writing children's stories and making drawings. She also illustrated, among other things, Fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, by Charles Perrault or by Hans Christian Andersen.
She later wrote several novels and radio plays under the pseudonyms Marc Holman and Annie Smit.
Cramer was married three times in total. She considered herself unsuitable to live with anyone and was very attached to her freedom. Cramer spent a lot of time abroad, for example in Mallorca, where she lived with friends for a long time. For health reasons she returned to the Netherlands, where she died shortly afterwards.
