Jessie Arms Botke was born in Chicago in 1883. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, and in 1911 Jessie moved to New York City to pursue her artistic career.
There she worked in interior design and also created tapestries and frescoes.
She was once sent to paint at the Bronx Zoo, where she became fascinated by the peacocks. From then on, drawing birds became her specialty.
After many years of working in Paris and Holland, Jessie settled on a farm in southern California, where she worked until her death in 1971.
