Morgan Weistling is a contemporary American artist. Born in 1964.
Morgan began studying art at an early age under the guidance of his father, a former art student.
Morgan, being much younger than his brother and sister, began his artistic training at 19 months. His father sat with him on his lap at night and told him how to evoke and use his imagination. “My dad and I would immerse ourselves in drawing and talk to each other through the pictures.” Morgan's father had a great talent for telling stories in comic book form, and in some way this influenced Morgan. “That’s when art became a language for me.”
This led little Morgan to study the art books his father had acquired several years earlier. At the age of 12, he was determined to complete the course on his own as school was no longer meaningful to him. And at the age of 15, his study of anatomy, drawing, and painting already needed the guidance of a mentor.
And he was trained by a retired illustrator named Fred Fixler. Fred's school, called the Brandes Art Institute, was dedicated to one thing: learning how to make work live. Working part-time as a doorman to pay his tuition, Morgan apprenticed with Fred Fixler for 3 years.
One day, when Morgan was still a student and working in an art shop, a famous illustrator entered the shop. Morgan showed him his student work and the next day he found himself hired by one of the major agencies designing Hollywood movie posters. Over the next 14 years he illustrated for every motion picture studio in Hollywood, as well as in many other areas of illustration.
Later, Morgan began participating in exhibitions at Trailside Galleries, and all of his paintings immediately began to sell with a bang.
In 1990, Morgan met his future wife Joanne at art school. And they had two daughters, Brittany and Siena. Both girls often act as models for Morgan's paintings.
