One of the most popular artists in the United States, Landry was born on the coast of Canada, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The grandson of two sea captains (Scottish and French branches intertwined in him), he grew up among fishermen on the coast of Nova Scotia, helping them tighten their nets and traps. His father was a talented athlete who took part in the British Empire Games, and Paul inherited some of his father's talents. He played football, hockey and baseball and also coached. He was interested in racing sports cars. At the age of 17, Landry became a photographer's apprentice. He began his career in the province of Nova Scotia, studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art, and also took part in the Art Students League in New York. He returned to Nova Scotia for 2 years, where he worked and painted. He then moved to the Midwest, where he worked as an engraver and photographer. Landry finally settled in Connecticut, where he taught at Westport's Famous Artists School and wrote a popular textbook on drawing and painting. He still lives near the coast, enjoying the company of his wife and three children. Still interested in racing cars, gardening and golf. His second book, The Captain's Garden: A Reflective Journey Home Through the Art of Paul Landry, was published to unanimous praise in 1996. His third book, "At the Heart of Christmas," published in 2001, immediately sold out.
