Sensual oil paintings by Thomas Saliot
French artist Thomas Saliot creates remarkable oil paintings using a unique bokeh technique. His canvases most often depict modern women. They are relaxing, playing, sunbathing, or lost in thought. Saliot's works are based on photographs he takes during his travels around the world. However, sometimes Thomas takes ordinary stock photos and transforms them into paintings.
Thomas Saliot was born in France in 1968. He says he discovered his passion for drawing very early, at the age of four. As a child, Saliot already knew he would dedicate his life to painting. After high school, he studied for three years at the Penningen Institute of Art and Architecture in Paris.
While still a student, Saliot began participating in exhibitions and became known in Parisian creative circles. He drew inspiration from the paintings of great masters, whom he could stand for hours in front of at the Louvre and other museums. His first works were imitations of famous artists. But over time, Saliot developed his own unique style, which earned him worldwide fame.
The artist believes that modesty is the virtue of an artist. Therefore, Thomas Saliot doesn't like to talk about himself. He is known to constantly travel between two countries—Morocco and France. Although his paintings have always been in demand, he isn't shy about exhibiting them in open-air galleries, alongside the works of unknown artists.
"My entire work is comprised of a few simple elements—oil on canvas, freehand painting, subjects and compositional solutions based on photographs I take myself or find on the vast internet."
Saliot considers his work to be pop art. He loves bright colors and striking images, but avoids unnecessary details. Some of his paintings may appear provocative, but they are a reflection of our times, and we must embrace that.
