10 Incredible Ideas for Future Buildings: An Iceberg, Mars, and a Farmhouse (10 photos)
To the average city dweller, almost all skyscrapers look the same—huge glass and concrete towers, differing only in height. Only architects can discern any significant differences between them. It's a different story when designers aren't constrained by physical limitations or the high cost of implementation—such concepts are truly fascinating to look at.
eVolo magazine held an annual competition for interesting architectural ideas, selecting the top three out of 444 concepts, and another 22 projects receiving honorable mentions. The winners receive a small sum of money, as well as media exposure—and perhaps they'll go on to build something equally impressive.
Second place went to a project by American architects Tianshu Liu and Lingsheng Xi.

First place was awarded to a building design that could be used to grow crops and fruit-bearing trees. This is because a significant portion of the African population is engaged in farming.
