Collection of photographs by the American historian of Russian architecture William Broomfield. Broomfield lived in the USSR and Russia for a total of about 9 years, conducting research in collaboration with Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State University, as well as traveling around the Russian North and photographing surviving monuments of traditional architecture, in particular Vologda wooden architecture, as well as churches of Vologda and the Vologda region. Broomfield donated his collection of approximately 1,100 photographs of architectural monuments of the Russian North, taken in 1999-2003, to the US Library of Congress; its archives were subsequently digitized. The collection also includes photographs of traditional and modern architecture of some cities in the Urals and Siberia, landscapes and panoramas.
