Oakland carpenter Henk Verhoeff creates cabinets and dressers that resemble not ordinary furniture, but mysterious artifacts from a fairy tale. Take a look and be amazed!

Oakland resident Henk Verhoeff has been making furniture his entire life: he worked as a carpenter in a factory for 53 years. After retirement, he continued working with wood to amuse himself, but in a very unusual way.

A retiree decided to move away from making standard cabinets and went wild. For his own pleasure, he began making furniture that looked like it had jumped out of a Disney cartoon or sci-fi film.

Henk's work would probably have remained just a hobby if not for his daughter, who posted a couple of photos online. The unusual furniture caught the attention of users, and the artist gained a large following, as well as potential clients.

It's important that all of the author's "cartoon" furniture is functional—the drawers pull out and the doors open. However, some pieces are quite limited in space, for the sake of decorativeness.

Frank carries out his work with extraordinary care, ensuring ease of use.

Hank says he enjoys making "unusual, weird furniture that you can't find in a store."

Hank admits that fairy tales are a source of inspiration for his work.

This type of work isn't easy.

As Hank himself says, it takes him 80 to 100 hours to make one such dresser.

Now Hank is retired, and he creates his work for fun.

After Hank's work became known on Facebook, many people wanted to buy similar unusual cabinets.

But Frank isn't selling yet.

Even though these amazing dressers look broken, they're completely functional! Each drawer pulls out, and the structure itself is quite stable.

"I've worked with wood for 53 years," he says. "Making furniture for me isn't just a job, but a hobby and a passion."

"I started making them for fun," he says. "When I run out of space in the house, I'll probably auction them off on eBay."

For now, Hank's creations adorn his own home.

Hank's main material is New Zealand pine.

According to Hank and his daughter, Linda, they didn't expect such widespread interest.

"I never even imagined anything like this!" Verhoeff admits frankly.
