The famous cast-iron lions of the Kuzminki estate will be restored (2 photos)
"Egyptian" lions are the symbol of the Kuzminki estate, which is currently undergoing large-scale restoration. This is an outstanding work of architecture and landscape gardening of the 18th-19th centuries and the largest estate in Moscow in terms of the number of cultural heritage sites.
14 sculptures were transported to the workshops. Some of the sculptures are almost 200 years old. The mane of the animals is covered with an Egyptian scarf - like on the sculptures found during excavations in Egypt.
First, the restorers removed the multi-year layers of paint and traces of corrosion. Then they eliminated the cracks and defects of the metal. Particular attention was paid to restoring the lost and deformed fragments.
Soon, the specialists will move on to priming and the final stage - painting. The lions should return to their places as early as 2025.
