Plastic Classics: Famous Still Lifes with Elements in Plastic Packaging (6 photos)
The word "still life" conjures up images of ripe fruits and vegetables. Spanish studio QUATRE CAPS decided to create an unusual project called "Not Longer Life" to highlight the amount of plastic used in the food industry. The designers recreated classic still life paintings by famous artists with a contemporary twist, placing the objects in plastic packaging.

Spanish studio QUATRE CAPS primarily focuses on architecture, but for their new series "Not Longer Life," the group decided to change direction. The artists wanted to highlight the large amount of plastic used in the food industry. Each of the six photographs reproduces classical still lifes by famous painters, including Claude Monet, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, and Juan Sánchez Cotán, but with a contemporary twist.
Recognizable elements of the paintings, such as rays of light and decorative fabric, are faithful to the originals. However, the perishable fruits, which traditionally symbolize the transitory nature of life, are here placed in plastic packaging: wrapped in cling film, packed in containers with lids, and in elastic polyethylene mesh wrappers.

Thousands of products reach our tables in plastic packaging. This is done to preserve their freshness and extend their shelf life. But plastic has ceased to be simply a means of protection and has become a "second skin" for fruits and vegetables, becoming a part of them. Art is concerned with the topic of unnatural products in our lives, but do we really think about it?
