“Siberia in Faces”: indigenous Siberian peoples in the project of Alexander Khimushin (36 photos)
Photographer Alexander Khimushin once took a backpack and set off to travel the world. He visited 84 countries and realized that the most interesting thing in new places is the people. Three years ago, he launched the photo project “The World in Faces” - it shows the beauty and diversity of the world through portraits of ordinary people. Alexander recently completed a project in Siberia, where he photographed indigenous people.
“Siberia is a huge region, almost 2 times larger than Australia and 30% larger than the USA, Canada or all of Europe. However, it is cold and there are few people,” writes the photographer. Alexander visited remote corners of Siberia - from Lake Baikal to the shores of the Sea of Japan, from Mongolia to Yakutia - to find out what kind of people inhabit these places. The local peoples are diverse and unique. But unfortunately, some ethnic groups (about 100) are on the verge of extinction. Let's take a look at his colorful photo project:
