A photographer from Holland breaks stereotypes and shows how people really live in Afghanistan (25 photos)
Dutch photographer Thijs Broekkamp travels the world, studying different cultures and nationalities. As part of his project called “Stans”, the photographer visited Central Asian countries such as Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Thijs wanted to show how people really live in these little-known and incomprehensible countries.
Many people associate these places with prejudices and stereotypes imposed by the media. They do not know that hospitable people live here, who practice their favorite craft, go to mosques and wish peace to everyone. Thijs wants people to be open-minded about other cultures and prevent xenophobia.
One of these countries was Afghanistan, the mention of which evokes thoughts of war and destruction. The photographer breaks this outdated stereotype and shows how the local population lives now. These photographs convey the atmosphere of hospitality, good nature and sincerity that reigns on the streets of the country. We invite you to take a look at these shots and get to know the culture of this place better.
