In her project, The Forgotten Dream, Hungarian photographer Flora Borsi imagined what 1900s immigrants would look like if they arrived in modern New York in pursuit of the American dream. She combined archival black and white photographs with footage from today. These pictures are a memory of the past and a look into the future.

Today, when immigration is the source of great controversy in the United States, the photography project "Forgotten Dream" shows us both sides of the coin. A great dream can bring with it not only good, but also bad. Beneath the sweet idea of endless prosperity lies many problems. However, it was a great dream that allowed these people to put everything they had on the line for the future they could have had.

“Last year I visited Ellis Island (where the first US immigration center was set up) and immediately had a bad feeling about this place,” Borsi wrote in 2017. “I knew roughly what happened on Ellis Island and didn’t could not draw parallels with today's situation related to the reform of emigration laws in the United States."

"I have looked into the matter more thoroughly and I am very sad about what happened to many immigrants on Ellis Island. It is known that at least 3,500 people died there waiting for a long time, hoping for the possibility of a new life. This is what their dream led to. I created This project is in memory of all the people who died there."
