"Souvenir from Kyiv" is an early 20th century album of 25 views of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine and one of the most important cities of the Russian Empire at that time. Among the presented attractions are cathedrals, monasteries, monuments, educational and cultural institutions, squares, busy streets, a train station, bridges over the Dnieper River and buildings associated with the commercial life of the city. The images in the album are phototypes created using a chemical printing process that was widely used before the invention of flat-bed offset printing. The signatures on each phototype are in Russian, French and German. Many of the historic buildings featured were destroyed during World War II, making the album an important document of a vanished era in the city's history.
