Messi was born in Santa Fe, like all boys, he was fond of football and dreamed of a career in the famous River Plate. Already at the age of five, he joined the local Grandoli team, from where he later moved to the more famous Old Boys club. There he was noticed by the ubiquitous River Plate scouts, and Messi began training in two teams at once. All of Messi’s ambitious plans were disrupted by the news of the guy’s hormonal illness (that’s why he’s so short), and the family had to move to Spain. Lionel quickly got used to his new place. Very quickly, the diminutive boy from Argentina was noticed by scouts from Barcelona, and in 2000, at the age of 13, he became a Catalan. Even then, the potential of the still very young Messi was assessed very highly. As it now turns out, the wisest decision of the team management was to sign a contract with the newcomer until 2012. An individual physical training program was developed especially for the guy. The Argentine did everything to assure everyone that these efforts of the club employees were not in vain. In his first match for the Barça youth team, he scored five goals, and in total he scored 35 goals during the season (despite the fact that he played 30 matches).
