Joseph Farquharson is a Scottish landscape painter. Born in Edinburgh on May 4, 1846. Known for his beautiful pre-sunset and pre-dawn landscapes, which he painted in both oil and watercolor.

In the 1860s, Joseph studied at the Edinburgh Trustees' Academy. At first, the young man studied painting under the guidance of the famous landscape painter Peter Graham, then at school at the Royal Scottish Academy. The artist exhibited his first painting, Day's Dying Glow, at the Academy in 1873. Almost all of Joseph's early works are inspired by rural landscapes; they depict herds of sheep, and occasionally people, often against the backdrop of dramatic landscapes. In 1885, the artist made a trip to North Africa, and among his works there are oriental scenes.
Many of the artist’s paintings have unusual and long titles; Joseph was very knowledgeable in British literature and took quotes from Burns, Shakespeare, Gray and others.

The artist died on April 15, 1935 in Finzean, Aberdeenshire.
