Artists Annie Feray Mutrie and Martha Darley Mutrie (24 works)
Annie Feray Mutrie (1826-1893) and Martha Darley Mutrie (1825-1885) were considered the leading still life artists of their time. Both sisters were born in Manchester and studied at the Manchester School of Design under George Wallis. The artists regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1851-1882 and gained great popularity among their contemporaries with their floral still lifes. Both sisters were the first women to be appointed Royal Academicians (Martha in 1868 and 1869 and Annie in 1870), despite the ban on female membership at the time.
