Yuko Nakata was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. She graduated from the Musashino School of Fine Arts "Junior College", Graphic Design training program (Tokyo). After graduation, she worked as a graphic designer in an advertising company for 13 years. She visited Indonesia for the first time in 1977, since then she began collecting batik fabrics and batik pictures. In 1999, she began to study traditional batik painting skills on the island of Bali.
She is the author of many books on batik techniques, winner of numerous prizes and awards, regularly teaches classes in batik techniques, member of Illustratars Hokkaido, instructor of Indonesian Batik in Sapporo, Japan.
