Edwin Austin Abbey (1852-1911) was an American and English painter and illustrator.
Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. As an illustrator, he collaborated primarily with Harper's Weekly magazine. He illustrated books by famous authors, including Shakespeare, and wrote on historical topics. From 1878 he lived in Great Britain; knighted. In 1898 he was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Arts, and in 1902 he was the official portrait painter at the coronation of Edward VII.
Among the most famous works are the fresco “The Quest for the Holy Grail” (1901) in the Boston Public Library building, and frescoes in the Pennsylvania State Capitol.
