I've been painting for over 10 years. But instead of canvas, I choose a simple sheet of wood (9 photos)
When people first see my work, they often think it's Photoshopped or laser-cut. In fact, everything is hand-crafted. 
My name is Kanat Nurtazin, and I'm an artist from Kazakhstan. For over ten years, I've been experimenting with a wide variety of materials. During this time, I created the project "100 Ways of Drawing," where, instead of traditional paper, I used everything imaginable: glass, tiles, fruit, tree leaves, and many other unusual surfaces.
I'm most fascinated by the art of leaf carving. The work begins with finding the right leaf. It must be sufficiently strong, undamaged, and with a beautiful network of veins. Then the sheet is prepared, after which the most painstaking part begins – cutting out the image.
One mistake with a knife can ruin several hours of work.
The most difficult thing is preserving all the details, and with each new work I strive to raise the bar.
Over the years, I have created portraits of famous actors, athletes, musicians, film and game characters, as well as works dedicated to ecology and important social issues.
I have always been interested not just in painting a beautiful picture, but in showing that art can appear even where no one expects it.
My work has already been used in projects by international companies, including Disney, Warner Bros., Nickelodeon, and other brands.
I love the idea that material that most people simply overlook can be transformed into a work of art.
