Flower Menagerie: Artist Creates Animal Sculptures from Plants (31 Photos)
Inspired by the ancient Japanese tradition of ikebana, Montreal-based artist and photographer Raku Inoue creates colorful portraits of insects and other animals. He uses flowers, branches, leaves and stems from his garden. Each of his works is unique and is a true work of art.
Raku Inoue, who grew up in Japan, spent every summer with his grandmother, who lived in the countryside near Hiroshima. She often left the door of the house open and was happy when dragonflies flew into the house. She believed that this was her late husband’s way of saying hello to her. Therefore, insects have always had a special meaning for Inoue.
“One day it was very windy and a rose bush fell in our yard. I picked up the delicate petals and made my first flower insect from them. And I was so fascinated by it that I continue to make them to this day,” said the artist.
