10 sad illustrations about the Little Mermaid who ended up in a polluted ocean (35 photos)

Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen wrote the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” in 1836, and since then many cartoons and films have been made based on it. More than 180 years have passed, the world has changed, and so has the environment. German artist Stefanie Hermes thought what if the Mermaid lived today, and realized that the fairy-tale beauty would have to live in a very polluted ocean.

Then the illustrator created the “The Little Trashmaid” series, which included ten cute but sad drawings about the modern Little Mermaid.
