Hyper-realistic animal portraits using scratchboard technique: this is amazing! (22 photos)
The works of American artist Kathy Sheeter are often confused with photographs - they are surprisingly realistic. All her drawings are made using the most complex scratchboard technique, which involves applying thousands of small scratches to a board covered first with a layer of white clay and then with a layer of ink. Worthy of admiration!
To create realistic effects, the artist scratches the board with a variety of tools, including an xacto knife, sandpaper, tattoo needles and fiberglass brushes.
Kathy Sheeter has been practicing subtractive painting for 20 years. She says that despite her extensive experience, each drawing is special for her. When the animals start to “come to life” on the board, it takes her breath away. It takes the artist from many hours to several months to paint.
