Semyon Fedorov gained fame at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries as the author of forest landscapes, painted in the tradition of the realistic movement of the second half of the 19th century. Having entered military service, he took up painting as an amateur. By order of the President of the Academy of Arts, Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, who saw his work, he was transferred to the reserve and accepted into the Academy of Arts as a student of I.I. Shishkin, who had a great influence on him. In the 1890s he worked in the workshop of Yu.Yu. Clover. Fedorov's paintings were repeatedly reproduced in the pre-revolutionary press. The artist's works are in many museum collections and private collections in Russia.
