John Fisher was born, raised and educated in England, graduating from Luton School of Art (now Barnfield College) in 1945. He always drew well and dreamed of becoming a graphic artist, but at the end of World War II, men and women began to return from service, and there weren’t enough jobs for everyone, and rightfully so. The future artist tried to get a job in his chosen field, but John ended up becoming a carpenter. Many years passed before he decided to emigrate to Canada in 1952, he married a Canadian girl, started a family, and in 1955 finally began a career in graphics as the owner of his own printing company and an art director in advertising. agency, worked in the field of marketing, advertising and public relations.
According to the artist, he would like to say that his passion for art burned brightly all these years, but, alas, the need to earn a living took over. Like many people, he often promised himself that when he retired, he would definitely return to painting. And then came 1989, when John and his wife freed themselves from all worries and moved into their home in Destin, Florida, for the winter months. John took private lessons from Robert Long, a talented watercolor artist who lived near the Fisher home. He became John's mentor and made his retirement infinitely richer.
In those days, Robert taught him only watercolor techniques, and there were rarely more than four classes a week. With Robert came an interest in photography as a complement to painting and as a kind of cliché for it. Over time, he acquired many paintings and John began exhibiting them in galleries in Florida and Ontario, where he now lives. He has won several prizes and first place in some shows, and sometimes won awards, the most important of which, in John's opinion, is Citizens' Choice. But mostly, he paints his watercolors for fun - hence the choice of name for his site: watercoloursforFUN.
