Western artist G. Russell Case paints remarkable landscapes inspired by the beauty of the wild. He admires the magnificence of mountains and canyons, however, he does not consider it necessary to literally copy them. His large-scale, idealized versions of the Western landscape are compositions that harmoniously combine the beauty of the natural world with the richness of imagination and originality of the artist's mind.
At the same time, his paintings are an undeniable embodiment of true honesty, resulting from direct interaction with the earth, which he paints directly from life. Russell continues the tradition of many generations of great Western artists, whose works are full of the original philosophy of these places. However, according to Case himself, his mountain landscapes are free from philosophy and there are no hidden messages in them, although he is certainly a student and heir to the artistic mastery of his ancestors.
The monumental scale of Maynard Dixon's paintings, Thomas Moran's raw colors and brilliant use of light are reflected in his paintings. Yet Russell's work is simple, clean and fresh, his paintings immersing the viewer in their timeless landscapes, instantly transporting them to a world woven of shadow and light, with vast crisscrossing masses of jagged mountains and populated by lonely cowboys. The artist claims that his deepest inspiration came from those who spent their entire lives painting from life and remained true to their vision to the end. Russell Case currently lives and works in Brigham City, Utah with his wife, Suzanne, and two children, Morgan and Cooper; the eldest, Tylee, grew up and lives separately in Salt Lake City.
