Charles Edward Perugini (1839 - 1918) - British artist of the Victorian era.
The artist's Italian roots are in Naples; he lived and worked in England.
He studied painting in Italy with Giuseppe Bonolis and Giuseppe Mancinelli, and in Paris with Ary Scheffer.
The famous Pre-Raphaelite artist Lord Frederick Leighton patronized Perugini and invited him to England in 1863.
In 1874, the artist married the youngest daughter of the writer Charles Dickens.
Perugini and his wife led an active social life and were well known in British artistic circles.
Perugini painted portraits and genre paintings, where the artist’s attraction to classical examples of ancient art is clearly visible.
