The artist, who went down in art history as the “Master Sun,” was born off the southeastern coast of Scandinavia - on the island of Öland. He entered the Royal Academy of Arts at the age of 20. And after finishing it, he moved to France, where he continued his education. He immortalized this period in the beautiful landscapes of Normandy and the outskirts of Paris in the 70s and 80s of the century before last. He returned home to Öland only in 1910, already an established painter. But it was in the second half of his life that he began to pay increased attention to the main celestial body in his work, while simultaneously experimenting with various “advanced” ideas of that time. However, he became famous not only for his innovative works, but also for his human dignity and nobility of actions. August Strindberg himself introduced him in the novel “The Red Hall” as one of the main positive characters.
