Ilya Ivanovich Mashkov (1881-1944) - Russian artist, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, one of the most important painters of the “Jack of Diamonds” circle. Born in the village of Mikhailovskaya-on-Don (near Volgograd) into a peasant family. After arriving in Moscow in 1900. studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture with V.A. Serov, K.A. Korovin, A.M. Vasnetsov. In 1909 he was expelled from the school because he was distinguished by free artistic thinking and an eccentric character. Most of all I loved the color. I did a lot of drawing. He loved hyperbole, exaggeration, gigantism. Mashkov traveled a lot as a student, visiting a number of Western European countries, as well as Turkey and Egypt. He was a member of the “World of Art” and “Jack of Diamonds” associations. He lived in Moscow and sometimes visited his village. Opened a studio. He taught artists himself. Among his students: Vera Rokhlina, P.P. Sokolov-Skalya, M.B. Verigo. Mashkov's works are in the following collections: State Tretyakov Gallery; State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg; Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts. His painting "Still Life with Flowers" was sold at Sotheby's London for $3.5 million.
