Contemporary American artist Elginia McCrary
Elginia McCrary is a contemporary American artist originally from Chesapeake, Virginia and the third of four girls. Her father died when she was fourteen, but her mother strongly supported her love of painting and desire to become an artist. She attended the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She later received a master's degree from Norfolk State University. Before becoming a professional artist, Elginia worked as a technical illustrator, freelance artist and art teacher. All this time, she continued to paint; later, her works were exhibited in galleries in Maryland, Chicago, New York and many other cities in the United States.
Unlike many artists who have recognized a particular style or technique, this is not the case with Elginia McCrary's work. Her creations embrace a variety of techniques, sometimes innovative, her elongated, stylized images are painted in vibrant colors and radiate exciting emotions and feelings to viewers. Most of her paintings are done in oil on canvas. Her goal is to create images that can touch the lives and hearts of people of all ages, cultures and races. "I feel that we are, in many ways, like our creator. Humans have a need to create. Through art, one can engage the mind, dazzle the senses, evoke emotions and share a part of oneself with others."
